Victor Petit — North Portal of Auxerre Cathedral (1847)

Original 19th-Century French Architectural Lithograph

An elegant mid-19th century architectural lithograph by Victor Petit (1817–1871), depicting the Portail Latéral du Nord (North Lateral Portal) of the Gothic Cathedral of Saint-Étienne, Auxerre. Published in Paris in 1847 by the distinguished printers Thierry Frères, this print belongs to a series of architectural studies celebrating France’s medieval cathedrals during the height of the Gothic Revival.

The engraving beautifully captures the soaring verticality, rose window, and richly sculpted tympanum of Auxerre’s north portal, making it a striking decorative piece as well as a document of 19th-century historic preservation.
