19th Century French Walnut Marble-Topped Buffet d'Appui Cabinet c.1870
A beautiful and highly decorative 19th Century French walnut buffet d'appui, dating from around 1870 and retaining its original white marble top. Typical of the French Second Empire period.
Discovered during one of my treasure-hunting trips through the French countryside, this elegant antique cabinet combines practical storage with the timeless architectural styling so often found in French château and townhouse interiors of the late 19th century.

Crafted in richly figured walnut, the cabinet features deeply moulded geometric panelled doors, turned corner columns, original brass escutcheons and drawer pulls, and a substantial moulded cornice beneath the original white marble top. The warm patina and character developed over more than 150 years give this piece a depth and presence that simply cannot be replicated by modern furniture.
Behind the pair of doors is useful storage space, while the two upper drawers provide additional practicality, making this a versatile piece for a hallway, dining room, kitchen, living room, bedroom or even a luxury bathroom conversion.

Condition
Presented in good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with its history and use. The original marble top remains in place and displays minor marks and wear expected of a piece of this age. The cabinet retains a wonderful colour and patina throughout.
