ABOUT THIS PIECE
A wonderfully decorative large antique French white ironstone soup tureen, dating from around 1900.
This substantial tureen has a beautifully rounded body raised on a broad pedestal foot, with elegant scrolling acanthus-leaf handles to either side. Its domed lid is moulded with radiating leaves and topped by a sculptural artichoke-shaped finial.
The simple white glaze allows the classical shape and moulded botanical details to take centre stage. French white ironstone tureens like this have become highly sought after as decorative centrepieces, particularly in country kitchens and collections of antique white ceramics.
It would look fabulous displayed on a dresser, kitchen island or large dining table. It could also be filled with seasonal foliage or simply enjoyed as a sculptural decorative object.

DETAILS & CONDITION
This tureen is in decorative antique condition with surface marks, scratches, glaze crazing, discolouration and other signs of age and use.
IMPORTANT: The artichoke-shaped finial on the lid has previously been broken away and repaired. The finial has been reattached, with the repair line and some old adhesive or restoration material visible around its base. The repair is clearly photographed and should be considered part of the condition.
There is crazing and age-related staining to the lid, particularly around the moulded decoration and repaired finial. The body also has scattered marks, rubbing and surface wear.
Please study all the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. This is an authentic antique object with more than a century of history and is not presented as being in perfect condition.
