ORIGINAL 1990 FRENCH ART EXHIBITION POSTER – JEAN GUILMOTO – GALERIE DE SÈVRES, PARIS
A fabulous original French art exhibition poster produced for an exhibition of work by Jean Guilmoto at the Galerie de Sèvres in Paris in 1990.
This is an ORIGINAL period gallery exhibition poster – NOT a modern reproduction.
The poster advertises Guilmoto’s exhibition held from 21 March to 14 April 1990 at:
Galerie de Sèvres
59 rue Notre-Dame des Champs
75006 Paris, France
The central image reproduces one of Guilmoto’s expressive abstract/figurative paintings, surrounded by wonderfully bold French gallery typography against a predominantly black background.
For me, this has everything you want from a vintage French exhibition poster – Paris provenance, a named artist and gallery, exact exhibition dates, striking artwork and fantastic graphic design.
Best of all, it is already beautifully framed and ready to hang.
The black frame with its narrow gilt inner detail works particularly well with the dark tones of the poster and gives the whole piece a wonderfully smart, understated look.
A fantastic piece of genuine French gallery ephemera and an incredibly decorative piece of wall art.

CONDITION
Good vintage condition and displays beautifully.
The poster is framed behind glass in its existing vintage frame.
There is age-related wear to the frame including rubbing, small knocks and areas of loss, all entirely consistent with its age and previous life.
Personally, I really like the existing framing and would leave it exactly as it is – the slightly timeworn black and gilt frame works beautifully with the poster.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
This is a genuine vintage piece dating from 1990. Signs of age, use and previous life are part of its character and should be expected.
POLLY’S STYLING NOTES
This is exactly the sort of French wall art I love finding.
It has all the ingredients that make original French exhibition posters so decorative – wonderful typography, strong artwork, Paris gallery provenance and that unmistakable slightly intellectual Left Bank gallery feel.
The predominantly black palette makes it particularly easy to live with.
I can see this hanging above a console table, in a study or sitting room, or mixed into an eclectic gallery wall alongside old paintings, drawings and other collected pieces.
It would work equally well in a very traditional interior or against a clean contemporary wall.
And because it is already framed, there is nothing to do – unpack it and hang it.

SOURCED BY POLLY
Personally sourced by Polly of French General Trading, drawing on more than 25 years of experience buying and selling antiques, vintage pieces and decorative treasures.
I buy pieces because they catch my eye, tell a story or simply have that indefinable something that makes an interior interesting.
I particularly love pieces with provenance and a sense of place – and an original Paris exhibition poster like this ticks all the boxes.
Original vintage pieces are individual.
When it’s gone, it’s gone.
