An exceptionally rare matching set of four original antique Spode dinner plates in the celebrated Jasmine pattern, first introduced circa 1825.
Dating to approximately 1825–1833, these are genuine late Georgian Spode plates—not later Blue Room Collection reproductions. Finding four matching full-sized dinner plates from this early production period, all surviving in such exceptional condition, is highly unusual.
Each plate is decorated with an extraordinarily detailed underglaze cobalt-blue transfer print. A magnificent arrangement of jasmine, roses and other flowers fills the centre, surrounded by further botanical sprays, scrolling foliage and a richly ornamented border.
The design is completed by Spode’s beautifully moulded white gadrooned edge, which gives the plates their distinctive sculptural profile.
Spode was instrumental in perfecting underglaze transfer printing on English earthenware. The quality and clarity of the engraving displayed across these plates demonstrate why the factory’s early blue-and-white wares became so internationally admired.
The Jasmine pattern is a recognised and documented early Spode design. An almost identical example dating from circa 1825–1833 is held in the permanent collection of the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art.
These plates are now approaching 200 years old. Their survival as a matching group of four, without chips, cracks or restoration, makes them particularly special.
They would form an important addition to a collection of early Spode, Georgian ceramics or English blue-and-white transferware. Equally, their exceptional decorative presence would make them magnificent display plates in an English country-house, traditional or grandmillennial interior.

DETAILS & CONDITION
All four plates are in exceptional antique condition, particularly considering that they are approaching 200 years old.
There are no chips, cracks or repairs.
As genuine early 19th-century ceramics, the plates display light surface wear, minor scratching, glaze crazing and occasional firing or transfer irregularities consistent with their age and traditional manufacture.
There are subtle variations in the colour and registration of the underglaze cobalt decoration. These are characteristic of early transfer printing, when individual sections of tissue carrying impressions from hand-engraved copper plates were carefully applied to the ceramic body.
Any tiny glaze specks, kiln marks or variations are evidence of the early manufacturing process rather than modern damage.
